Bridging Program for Registered and Enrolled Nurses

Aim of the Bridging Program

     The aim of this program is to provide overseas-educated and currently-practicing Registered and Enrolled Nurses -- with at least one-year of current hospital experience -- both theoretical learning and clinical practice in a hospital setting leading to Registration with the Nursing Board of Australia.

Course Structure and Assessment Criteria

     The Bridging Course runs from 4-16 weeks in Australia and consists of theory, skills assessment, and clinical practice. The length of time you will need to spend in the course is decided by the preceptors in charge and is made during their assessment of your performance throughout the course.

To be considered for the SNI Australia program you will need the following:

(1).  Nursing Diploma (minimum 3-years of nursing school)
(2).  One - two years minimum experience as a nurse in a hospital setting
(3).  English Test -- either IELTS or OET. Both tests are given all over the world.

     Scores on the IELTS must be the following:

     All Australian Provinces:

     IELTS of 7 overall band score with a 7 in Speaking, 7 in Writing, 6.5 in Reading and 6.5 in Listening. The IELTS must be taken no earlier than two years from date of application.

     OET scores must be 'B' or above in all four areas of the test: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

   We recommend the OET (Occupational English Test) for Australia as this test was designed by the Australians for international nurses wishing to work in Australia. You can find more information on the OET and apply for the test here.

The Process of going to Australia

     Upon receipt of your resume SNI will pre-screen it and contact you regarding your eligibility for hospital placement in Australia and whether you should proceed further.
     If you meet the requirements for placement there are two options available to you:

(1).   Option A: Pay SNI registration fee of $350 USD. This will open a file on you and we will then send you the necessary information for the next step. You will be responsible for registering yourself with the Nursing Board and all follow-up in Australia.

(2). Option B: Pay SNI Registration fee of $750 USD. This will open a file on you and we will send you the necessary information as above, plus screen all of your Nursing Board and visa applications and follow up with these departments for you in Australia.

     Both these options include placement services in a hospital in Australia

    We do not charge a Registration Fee unless we are confident we can place you in a hospital in Australia or New Zealand after you have completed the Bridging Course.

     All course costs, visa costs, licensing costs, accomodation and transortation costs from your country to Australia are the responsibility of the nurse. Once registered with SNI fees are not refundable should you drop out.

Additional Costs

     Estimated costs 2008/2009:

     Australian Nursing Board Licensing = $299 AUD
     Visa = $190 AUD
     Accomodation = $150 - $250 per week
     Airfare from country of origin to Australia

     Hospitals do not pay the cost of this Bridging Program. Each hospital has its own benefits package and it will be given to you at time of placement. Please note that you will need enough money for accomodation and living expenses while attending the Bridging course.

     Please Contact Us with your resume and English Test results to get started with this process. Or go directly to our "Registration for Australia Bridging Course" page to sign up -- we will still need your resume and English results.
